Woot! PokerStars blogger tournament is back. I was starting to worry that I had missed it this year, or that they had discontinued it. I came in 11th place out of over 1300+ last year so hopefully I can improve upon that and win some ginormous prizes.
They're mixing it up a bit this year. Rather than just one tournament there are six qualifying events the week before hand. Placing in the top 72 gets you into the final, plus the better you do in the qualifier the better your additional prizes. The qualifiers also offer some other game options like pot limit omaha and 8-game mix, which is nice even though I suck at other games. I'm not sure if you can play in all the qualifiers or you have to pick just one. My guess is the latter, but it would be cool if we could play them all.
The top 100 finishers in the main event win prizes starting with a Step 3 tourney entry and going all the way up to a PokerStars CAribbean Adventure prize package worth $14,300. Last year most of the prizes involved stuff. From duffel bags to iPods to XBoxes and more before the super fancy prizes kicked in. This year its just tourney entries. I'd personally prefer the stuff I think, because chances are a tourney entry is just as good as winning nothing, but on the other hand it would be nice to win my way into a tournament that is otherwise out of my price range.
The only real problem with this year's event is the timing. The main event is Sunday before Christmas and I'm fairly certain that I'm going be at at least two different extended family member's houses that day. So chances are that even if I qualify for the final I won't be able to play, and I bet I'm not the only one. Maybe I can find a sub, or qualify and hope that no one else can make it either, and get blinded into the money. They need a web client or maybe an iPhone app. Then I could play and travel.
